Greetings Litchfield Public Schools students and parents.

I am writing and posting this message to update everyone on our plan going into the 2020-2021 school year.  After long discussions between the administration and school board, as well as with our local health departments, gathering information from various other school organizations, and the Nebraska Department Education, we are working with an initial plan.  We plan to have this plan out before August 1st.  We will post this on social media and it will be mailed out with other beginning of the year paper work.

We are planning on starting school on Monday, August 17, 2020.  This will be with a 1:00 dismissal.  The calendar is also attached to our website.  Activity practices are as of now set to start on August 10.

We are developing a three color stage guideline by using the sources and guidance that have been given by all the before said agencies.  We have shared this with the school board and Loup Basin Health Department.  We - the district administration, board, and staff - want to do the best we can for our students, both in safety and education.  We want our students to have as normal of a school year as possible.  We may have to be flexible and somewhat creative at times in order to do this.

There have been many questions to answer these in the past and upcoming weeks.  It feels like we are aiming at a moving target as the DHMs, different medical and scientific studies, and guidance seem to change quickly.  There are many opinions about severity, transmission, testing, etc.  I hope that as we walk through these uncertain and unprecedented times together you will know that we have the best interests of our students in the middle of every decision we make.

Thank you for your patience.

Wade Finley, Superintendent

Litchfield Public Schools.

Litchfield Schools update from April 2, 2020...

Here is an update for Litchfield Public Schools. Last night the governor directed that schools across Nebraska will not return to a normal status in the current school year. Therefore, Litchfield Schools will continue with our remote learning as we have been doing for the remainder of the year. Furthermore, the Nebraska School Activity Association released a statement that says, “All remaining NSAA activity practices and competitions, including district and state competitions, have been cancelled for this school year.” We plan to continue to deliver lunches and learning boxes with school materials. We are still in the process of discussing how we will handle graduation and how we plan to have closure for this school year. Graduation is postponed to a later date yet to be determined. We do have a couple of other announcements.
